ISLAMABAD-UNS: The Government of Pakistan, in coordination with relevant institutions, is reportedly considering a major economic initiative aimed at bringing back substantial Pakistani-owned assets held abroad, particularly in Dubai-based banks.
According to sources, the estimated amount could reach up to $100 billion.
Officials indicate that this capital would not be treated as a loan but instead invested in key national development projects.
A primary focus of the plan is the modernization and expansion of Karachi Port and Gwadar Port.
The proposed upgrades include advanced technology and deep berthing facilities to accommodate some of the world’s largest cargo vessels.
Experts suggest that if implemented effectively, the initiative could position Pakistan as a significant regional trade hub, potentially increasing trade volumes and generating employment opportunities.
Economic analysts also note that a large inflow of foreign exchange could help stabilize the Pakistani rupee and reduce reliance on the US dollar.
However, they caution that the actual impact will depend on execution, regulatory measures, and global economic conditions.
Government sources believe that this strategy could eventually reduce Pakistan’s dependence on international financial institutions, though experts emphasize the importance of transparency and careful policy implementation.
