ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has reportedly arrested Dr Shaukat Ali Bangash, owner of Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital, in connection with allegations of illegal kidney transplantation and other serious irregularities. However, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has not officially confirmed his arrest so far.
According to the allegations, the hospital has been accused of involvement in unlawful kidney transplant procedures and questionable billing practices. Complaints have also alleged that some patients were subjected to unnecessary tests, medicines and hospitalisation, resulting in inflated medical bills running into hundreds of thousands or millions of rupees.
It has further been alleged that patients were unnecessarily shifted to intensive care units (ICUs), significantly increasing treatment costs. Other accusations include keeping deceased patients recorded as hospitalised for extended periods and generating excessive or allegedly fraudulent bills.
Serious allegations have also been raised regarding the hospital’s establishment and financing. It is claimed that Pakistani-origin doctors based in the United States were encouraged to invest substantial amounts in the project but were later excluded from its management.
The allegations against Dr Bangash and the hospital are serious and require independent investigation and verification by the relevant authorities. No allegation should be treated as established fact unless proven through an investigation or court proceedings.
The FIA’s official findings and the response of Dr Bangash and Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital should be incorporated as they become available to ensure balanced reporting.
