ISLAMABAD: Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi inaugurated the newly constructed Tine Girls Model Primary School in Tarnol, Islamabad, on Tuesday, following the completion of a project funded by the Government of Japan with a grant of $44,025.

The project was implemented by the Community Services Programme (CSP), a non-governmental organization working to improve access to education, healthcare, clean water and women’s empowerment for vulnerable communities across Pakistan.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by officials from the Japanese Embassy, CSP representatives, teachers, students, parents and local community members.

The newly constructed school comprises eight classrooms, a principal’s office, washrooms, a leveled playground and 250 student chairs. CSP also contributed additional resources to install a solar power system, an underground water storage tank, an electric water cooler and an interactive smart board to support digital learning.

The facility currently serves 240 enrolled students and has the capacity to accommodate up to 250 children, providing girls in Tarnol with access to a safer, more comfortable and modern learning environment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Akamatsu congratulated CSP on completing the project despite challenging weather conditions. He emphasized that education is a fundamental human right and a key pillar of human security, as well as an essential foundation for building a prosperous society.

He particularly highlighted the importance of girls’ education for Pakistan’s future, noting that education remains a key priority of Japan’s development cooperation in the country.

The ambassador reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s sustainable development and expressed hope that the school would serve as a lasting symbol of the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The project was carried out under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme, which supports community-level initiatives aimed at improving living conditions and addressing the basic needs of vulnerable populations.

The establishment of the school is expected to expand educational opportunities for girls in Tarnol and contribute to community development by promoting inclusive access to quality primary education.
