Egypt Parliament to Hold Emergency Session on Defensive Support for Saudi Arabia

CAIRO -UNS : Egypt’s House of Representatives is set to convene an emergency session at 1:00 pm local time (10:00 GMT) to discuss authorising defensive assistance to Saudi Arabia if requested by Riyadh, according to Al Jazeera.

The session follows Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s pledge to take necessary measures to protect the kingdom amid escalating regional tensions.

El-Sisi has emphasised that any Egyptian involvement would be strictly defensive and would not involve initiating attacks against other parties.

The Egyptian president has also acknowledged that parliamentary approval is required for the proposed assistance. He expressed hope that lawmakers would convene to grant the necessary authorisation should Saudi Arabia formally request support.

The development highlights growing coordination between Cairo and Riyadh as Saudi Arabia faces continued security threats, with Egypt signalling its readiness to help defend the kingdom while stressing the limited scope of any potential involvement.
