Ms. Kalsoom completes successful MPhil thesis defense

PESHAWAR-UNS:Ms. Kalsoom completed  successful MPhil thesis defense. This is a significant milestone, especially given the complex nature of her research into antimicrobial resistance.

MPhil Thesis Defense Success:Molecular Characterization of Linezolid Resistance Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (LR-MRSA) Through Whole Genome Sequencing in Peshawar.

The Centre for Omic Sciences announced that Ms Kuksoom has successfully defended her MPhil thesis.

Her research addresses the global threat of antimicrobial resistance, specifically focusing on the emerging resistance of MRSA to Linezolid.

In Investigating highlighted that ,why certain MRSA strains show phenotypic resistance to Linezolid even when traditional genetic markers aren’t present.

Methodology: Used advanced Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and bioinformatics tools (ResFinder/CARD).

Key Discovery: The study found a mismatch between phenotypic and genotypic findings, suggesting the existence of a novel resistance mechanism that warrants further functional and transcriptome analysis.

Academic Committee Supervisor Dr. Muhammad Fahim Internal/External Examiner: Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim (Associate Professor, IBGE) and others academic paid tributed and congratulations to Ms. Kalsoom on successfully defending her MPhil thesis at the Centre for Omic Sciences.

Her groundbreaking work on LR-MRSA highlights the limitations of current genomic databases and paves the way for discovering new resistance mechanisms in bacterial infections.
