ISLAMABAD -UNS: Off the coast of Sindh lie two islands, Bundal and Buddo, covering a combined area of approximately 180 square kilometres—around six times larger than Dubai.
The first proposal to transform the islands into a modern waterfront city emerged in 2006. The master plan envisioned a world-class coastal development featuring luxury hotels, shopping malls, residential communities, resorts, restaurants, stadiums, marinas, and other state-of-the-art infrastructure, with the aim of creating a destination comparable to Dubai.
In 2013, property developer Malik Riaz announced an ambitious plan to build a landmark mega-city on the islands, including what was promoted as the world’s largest shopping mall, surpassing Dubai Mall, along with iconic skyscrapers designed to rival the Burj Khalifa and other international attractions.
Following these proposals, the federal government assumed responsibility for advancing the island development project, which has since remained one of Pakistan’s most ambitious coastal urban development initiatives, attracting both domestic and international interest over its long-term economic and tourism potential.
