WASHINGTON -UNS: US President Donald Trump has said that the proposed civilian nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia will move forward only if the kingdom joins the Abraham Accords and normalises diplomatic relations with Israel.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stressed that the agreement is strictly for peaceful purposes and would not permit uranium enrichment for military use.
“The Civil Nuclear Deal… pertains only to non-military use. There will be no enrichment of material,” Trump said, adding that the agreement remains conditional on Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the administration has consistently linked the nuclear deal to Saudi-Israeli normalisation, warning that the agreement would not proceed if Riyadh declines to join the accords.
Saudi Arabia has maintained that it will not recognise Israel without an agreed roadmap toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The Trump administration said the proposed agreement complies with US non-proliferation requirements under the Atomic Energy Act, while Saudi Arabia said the deal would support its energy diversification plans and adhere to the highest international standards of nuclear safety, security, and non-proliferation.
