Danish Photojournalist Urges Immediate Aid for Earthquake Victims in Chupursan Valley GB

ISLAMABAD — Danish photojournalist Laura has said that massive destruction has been caused by the recent earthquake in Chupursan Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, leaving thousands of homes completely destroyed and residents facing extreme hardship in sub-zero temperatures.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club Islamabad alongside Hunza Small Traders and Small Industry Association President Mubarak Hussain, she said the temperature in Chupursan has dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius, worsening the suffering of the affected population. She stressed that victims are in urgent need of warm blankets, tents, food, and medicines.
Laura stated that elderly people, children, and livestock are falling ill due to the intense cold, while many families remain without shelter and government assistance. She appealed for immediate humanitarian support to save lives during the harsh winter conditions.
Mubarak Hussain praised Laura’s efforts, noting that she had traveled to Pakistan from Denmark with her family for holidays but, upon learning about the devastation in Chupursan, abandoned her plans and donated all her savings to help the earthquake victims. He added that the Danish Embassy in Pakistan has also appreciated her humanitarian gesture.
He further said that relief goods sent by China last year are still lying at the Sost border despite directives from Federal Minister Jam Kamal for their distribution. Due to delays, the affected population continues to suffer in severe cold without adequate resources.
Both speakers urged the federal and provincial governments to immediately announce a relief package for Chupursan earthquake victims to ease their difficulties.
