U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and a Supply-class fast combat support ship collided Wednesday during a routine replenishment-at-sea operation near the coast of South America, resulting in minor injuries to two personnel, military officials confirmed.
The incident involved the destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG-103) and the supply vessel USNS Supply (T-AOE-6). Both vessels were engaged in a standard ship-to-ship refueling when the collision occurred. According to U.S. Southern Command spokesperson Colonel Emmanuel Ortiz, the two sailors who sustained injuries are in stable condition.
“Both vessels have reported they are able to continue sailing safely,” Col. Ortiz said. “The cause of the collision remains under investigation.”
