ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for Saudi Arabia on Thursday for a three-day official visit from August 6 to 8, accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and other senior members of the federal cabinet. The high-level visit underscores the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is expected to further expand cooperation in diplomacy, security, defense, investment, and regional affairs.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit reflects the longstanding relationship of trust, mutual respect, and brotherhood between the two countries.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold comprehensive talks with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening political relations, enhancing economic and investment cooperation, expanding defense collaboration, promoting regional security, and coordinating positions on major international issues.
The meeting is also expected to review progress on existing bilateral initiatives while identifying new avenues for long-term cooperation across multiple sectors.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the visit as a continuation of the deep-rooted strategic partnership between Islamabad and Riyadh.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson “Although this visit is taking place during a period of continuing regional tensions, its significance extends far beyond the current situation. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia remain committed to strengthening their long-term strategic partnership, promoting regional stability, and advancing their shared interests.”»
The ministry further stated that both sides would discuss bilateral cooperation alongside important regional and global developments, reaffirming their commitment to close diplomatic coordination.
The visit comes at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty across the Middle East. Ongoing security challenges in the Gulf, shifting regional alignments, and continuing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions have increased the importance of consultations between key regional partners.
The presence of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in the delegation highlights the strategic and security dimensions of the visit.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have maintained decades of close defense ties, with regular military cooperation, training exchanges, and strategic dialogue forming an important pillar of their bilateral relationship.
The government maintains that sustainable peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through diplomacy and mutual understanding.
Strait of Hormuz and Diplomatic Developments:Foreign Office has also expressed optimism regarding recent diplomatic developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, noting that emerging understandings could create opportunities for renewed dialogue between the United States and Iran.
