ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has strongly criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif over her announcement to send a compensation notice to Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, warning that any such move would be met with a strong legal and political response.

PML-Q spokesperson Mustafa Malik took exception to what he described as the chief minister’s arrogant tone and advised her to exercise restraint in her public statements, saying that arrogance and pride were attributes befitting only Allah Almighty.

He urged Maryam Nawaz to reconsider her remarks, arguing that Chaudhry Salik Hussain and his family had played a significant role in the political developments that paved the way for her elevation to the office of Punjab chief minister.

In a statement, Malik said that PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, along with his party and allied political forces, had exercised their political influence in support of Maryam Nawaz’s rise to power.

He maintained that the political sacrifices made by Chaudhry Salik Hussain’s father had also contributed to the circumstances that enabled her to occupy the chief minister’s office.

Taking a further swipe at the Punjab chief minister, the PML-Q spokesperson claimed that had the agreement reached in 2023 been implemented in its entirety, Maryam Nawaz would not have become chief minister.

He said political history should not be ignored and urged the chief minister to demonstrate gratitude rather than disregard the contributions of political allies.

“Just because we are allies of the ruling coalition does not mean we should remain silent over every wrong government action or policy,” Malik remarked.
