ISTANBUL : Turkey has reportedly warned several former Afghan military officers and political figures residing on its territory against travelling to Pakistan to participate in armed activities against the Taliban government.
According to a report published by DID Press Agency on October 31, 2026, Turkish authorities cautioned the individuals concerned about travelling to Pakistan for this purpose.
They were reportedly told that if they intended to make the journey, they should take their families with them.
The report also alleges that a meeting took place in Turkey between a Pakistani intelligence official and several former Afghan political figures, including former Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum and Mohammad Mohaqiq.
According to DID Press, the possibility of these figures travelling to Pakistan was discussed during the meeting. However, Turkish authorities reportedly opposed the move and prevented them from travelling.
Sources cited in the report suggest that Turkey has been seeking to promote regional stability and reconciliation, including through mediation efforts involving Turkey and Qatar. Ankara reportedly does not want Afghan refugees or former political and military figures residing in Turkey to become involved in regional tensions or armed conflicts.
The reported development comes amid allegations that Pakistan is attempting to recruit and arm former Afghan military personnel for potential operations against Afghanistan. The Taliban government has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting such efforts.
