ISTANBUL/ISLAMABAD -UNS: Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia are holding the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Istanbul on Monday, marking a significant step toward strengthening trilateral defence and strategic coordination.
Pakistan is being represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the foreign ministers, defence ministers and senior military leadership of Türkiye and Saudi Arabia are also participating in the high-level meeting.
The talks are expected to focus on implementation of the Makkah Accord, enhanced defence cooperation, regional security challenges and mechanisms for closer political and military coordination among the three countries.
Field Marshal Asim Munir has arrived in Türkiye to participate in the meeting. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), his visit is also aimed at further strengthening Pakistan-Türkiye defence and strategic cooperation.
During his stay, the Field Marshal is expected to hold meetings with senior Turkish political and military leaders to discuss bilateral defence ties, regional security and other matters of mutual interest.
The first committee meeting comes at a significant time for regional security and represents an important institutional step following the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement earlier this month.
Pakistan has described its participation as reflecting its longstanding ties with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia and its commitment to promoting regional peace, security and stability.
