Iran Targets US-Linked Bases in Jordan, UAE After American Strikes on Larak Island

WASHINGTON/TEHRAN -UNS: Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting US military positions in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates on Monday, escalating tensions with Washington following American strikes on Iranian military installations on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Jordan’s military said its air-defense systems intercepted eight missiles that entered the kingdom’s airspace. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted US military positions in Jordan in retaliation for the American operation.
Reports citing US officials indicated that most incoming missiles were intercepted and that there was no immediate indication of significant damage from the strikes in Jordan.
The Iranian attacks followed US military strikes on two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. According to reports citing a US official, the launchers were allegedly being prepared by Iranian forces to fire rockets carrying sea mines toward the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian authorities said the US strikes killed and wounded members of the Revolutionary Guards as well as civilians, although no specific casualty figures were immediately released. The IRGC subsequently vowed retaliation.
In a separate development, Iran’s military said it carried out a drone attack on Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, targeting locations where it said US forces and helicopters were stationed. Iranian state television reported that the operation was also conducted in response to the casualties on Larak Island.
The renewed military exchange comes amid continuing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important energy corridors. Washington has warned Tehran against laying new mines in international waters, while Iran has repeatedly asserted its right to safeguard its security interests in the strait.
The latest confrontation represents a fresh escalation between the United States and Iran after several weeks of relative military stalemate, raising renewed concerns about regional security and the uninterrupted flow of global energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
