ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt are moving steadily toward a comprehensive strategic partnership as both countries seek to transform their longstanding friendly relations into broader political, economic, and security cooperation, driven by sustained high-level engagement and renewed diplomatic momentum.
The growing convergence was highlighted during the National Day Reception of the Arab Republic of Egypt, hoste in Islamabad by Egypt’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Ehab Mohamed Abdel Hamid Hassan. The event brought together senior Pakistani government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the media.
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan attended as the Guest of Honour. Also present were Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Commerce Rana Ehsan Afzal, Additional Foreign Secretary Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov, Acting Dean of the African Group and Ambassador of Algeria Ibrahim Romani, along with ambassadors from numerous countries and distinguished guests from diplomatic, business, and academic circles.
In his address, Ambassador Dr. Ehab described Egypt’s National Day as a historic milestone symbolizing the nation’s enduring commitment to social justice, national dignity, and sustainable development. He noted that Egypt continues to pursue an ambitious development agenda through major national projects that have strengthened its regional and international standing.
The ambassador emphasized that Pakistan–Egypt relations have witnessed remarkable progress over the past two years, supported by reciprocal visits of foreign ministers and senior officials. These exchanges, he said, have deepened political understanding and opened new avenues for economic, commercial, and investment cooperation.
He stressed that the leadership of both countries shares a clear political will to translate their excellent diplomatic ties into tangible partnerships in trade, investment, industry, energy, and other strategic sectors. Expressing optimism about the future, he said both governments are well positioned to establish a strategic partnership capable of delivering meaningful benefits to the peoples of Pakistan and Egypt.
Addressing regional developments, Ambassador Dr. Ehab observed that the Middle East continues to face complex geopolitical challenges. He reaffirmed that both Egypt and Pakistan firmly believe in dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful engagement as the most effective means of resolving conflicts and promoting regional peace and stability.
He also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Pakistan for their hospitality and cooperation throughout his diplomatic tenure, describing the warmth extended to him as a reflection of the deep-rooted historical friendship between the two nations.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan conveyed the greetings and congratulations of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan to the Government and people of Egypt on their National Day.
The minister described Egypt as one of Pakistan’s most important strategic partners in the Arab world and Africa, emphasizing that bilateral relations possess enormous untapped potential in trade, investment, manufacturing, technology, and infrastructure development.
He further highlighted expanding opportunities in defence cooperation, including military training, institutional collaboration, and the exchange of professional expertise.
Recalling his participation in the Developing Eight (D-8) Summit in Cairo, Jam Kamal Khan revealed that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had graciously accepted Pakistan’s official invitation to visit Islamabad. He expressed confidence that the anticipated presidential visit would provide a major strategic impetus to bilateral relations.
The minister also referred to his meetings with Egyptian government officials and leading business executives, noting their strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s real estate, energy, infrastructure, and other high-growth sectors.
Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Commerce Rana Ehsan Afzal underscored that Pakistan and Egypt enjoy a relationship founded on decades of mutual trust, shared values, and close historical ties. He argued that the next phase of bilateral engagement should move beyond traditional cooperation toward strategic partnerships based on investment, industrial collaboration, technology transfer, and innovation.
He added that the two countries’ strategic geographic locations provide exceptional opportunities for economic integration. While Egypt serves as a gateway to Africa and the Middle East, Pakistan offers access to South Asia and Central Asia, creating significant prospects for businesses and investors from both nations.
Diplomatic observers believe that the unprecedented political momentum witnessed in Pakistan–Egypt relations is laying the foundation for a new era of strategic cooperation. They expect both governments to further expand collaboration in trade, investment, defence, energy, industry, technology, and regional diplomacy, reinforcing shared economic prosperity while contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development across the wider region.
