AKOA KHATTAK/NOWSHERA -UNS:Chief of JUI-S Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, among 8 others, were martyred, while over 20 people were injured after a suicide blast ripped through the Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak ,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Nowshera district today on Friday.
The blast took place inside the Masjid, which resulted in the injuries of several people, including Maulana Hamidul Haq, but later Maulana Hamidul Haq could not recover his wounds and was martyred.
Maulana Hamidul Haq was one of Pakistan’s leading religious scholars and supporters of the Taliban. He taught and guidance in the Haqqaniya University for many years and his students are spreading around the world.
After the incident, a wave of sarcasm and grief has run throughout the area, and the investigation into the tragedy is underway. So far the responsibility of the blast has not been determined, but officials are investigating it.
The martyrdom of Maulana Hamid -ul -Haq is expressed deeply by various religious and political circles. Public figures and religious leaders have strongly condemned the tragedy and demanded immediate investigation into the incident.
Adviser to KP Chief Minister on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif confirmed in a statement that Maulana Hamidul Haq was among the dead.
“He was a great religious scholar whose immense services to Islam are unforgettable,” he said. “Maulana Hamidul Haq’s martyrdom is an irreparable loss.”
The blast occurred as people were gathered for Friday prayers in the main hall of the madressah.
An emergency has been declared in all hospitals and health facilities across Peshawar by the KP Health Department with immediate effect, according to a statement.
Maulana Haqqani, the elder son of the assassinated Maulana Samiul Haq, is the chief of JUI-S. He is a politician and Islamic scholar who served as a member of the National Assembly from November 2002 to 2007. He also served as the vice chancellor of the Jamia Darul Uloon Haqqania and chairman of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Sami) after his father’s assassination.
Last year, he led a delegation of Pakistani religious scholars to Afghanistan as a part of “religious diplomacy”, where he met Taliban leaders.
Leading Afghan Taliban leaders including founder of Taliban movement Mullah Omer (late)got education from Jamia Darul Uloon Haqqania.
Jamia Darul Uloon Haqqania was founded by Maulana Abdul Haq Haqqani, an Islamic scholar, in September 1947.
