RAWALPINDI=In a surprise move, the top leaders of the embattled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) were arrested when they reached Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan.
However, they were released shortly after their detention. It was added that Aliya Hamza Malik was also part of the delegation that came to meet the PTI founder; however, she was not arrested as she was standing at a distance from the other leaders.
It was reported that a police team took PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Shibli Faraz and SIC Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza into custody when they went to meet PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala jail.
Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Ahmed Khan Bachar was also among the arrested. Their arrest took place for the violation of Section 144.
In a statement, the former ruling party said that the politicians were arrested “unjustly” for “simply exercising their right to meet with Imran Khan, as permitted by law”. The PTI also demanded: “Immediately release them!”
