ISLAMABAD: World Youth Skills Day is being observed across the world, including Pakistan, on July 15, highlighting the importance of equipping young people with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, World Youth Skills Day aims to raise awareness about the critical role of technical, vocational, and future-oriented education in promoting employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth.
The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2026, “Skills for a Shared Future,” underscores the importance of combining technical and digital expertise with social, emotional, and civic competencies. The initiative seeks to prepare young people to navigate technological transformation, environmental challenges, and evolving labor market demands.
This year’s observance highlights the need for innovative youth development programs that empower young people not only to adapt to change but also to become leaders who promote inclusion, resilience, empathy, and sustainable development.
Governments, educational institutions, employers, and development organizations are using the occasion to strengthen education and training systems, ensuring that young people have access to quality learning opportunities and decent employment aligned with their aspirations.
Experts emphasize that investing in youth skills has become more important than ever as technological advancements and global economic shifts continue to reshape the workforce. By developing their talents, creativity, and adaptability, young people can play a vital role in driving economic progress, strengthening communities, and building a more sustainable future for all.
