Washington – UNS : US President Donald Trump has indicated that a second round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran could take place as early as Friday, amid ongoing tensions despite a temporary ceasefire.
In an interview with a US newspaper, Trump described recent developments as encouraging, suggesting they could pave the way for renewed diplomatic engagement. He said the ceasefire would remain in effect until Iran presents its proposals, linking the continuation of the truce to progress in talks.
The US president also confirmed that American forces have been instructed to maintain the naval blockade on Iran while staying fully prepared for any escalation. He termed the extension of the ceasefire a “constructive step” toward dialogue, though no official confirmation of the next round of talks has yet been issued.
Earlier, Trump stated on his social media platform that a planned US attack on Iran had been postponed following requests from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir.
He said the delay was intended to give Iranian leadership time to formulate a mutually agreed proposal.
Trump further claimed that internal divisions within Iran’s leadership were contributing to the current situation, while reiterating that US forces would continue enforcing the blockade and remain on high alert.
On the Iranian side, an adviser to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed Trump’s remarks, arguing that the ceasefire extension holds little significance. The adviser added that continued blockade measures are effectively equivalent to active hostilities and should be met with a firm response.
The contrasting statements from both sides underscore the fragile nature of the ceasefire, even as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a resolution.
