Islamabad -UNS;Former Speaker and Chairman Kashmir Committee Syed Fakhar Imam visited the residence of senior Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmed Bhat in Islamabad to offer condolences on the demise of his mother. He expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
On the occasion, Syed Fakhar Imam strongly condemned the denial of permission to Hurriyat leader Zaffar Akbar Bhat to attend his mother’s funeral, terming it a grave humanitarian injustice and a painful reflection of the situation in Kashmir.
He also expressed serious concern over the broader situation in Kashmir, particularly the continued incarceration of Hurriyat leaders in different jails across India. He condemned the failure to release Syed Shabbir Ahmed Shah despite being granted bail by the Supreme Court of India, stating that his continued detention through fabricated cases is unjustifiable.
Syed Fakhar Imam further denounced the life sentence awarded to Asiya Andrabi on what he termed as fabricated charges, and raised concern over the ongoing cases against other leaders. He said that such actions are aimed at suppressing legitimate voices and keeping leadership away from the people.
He urged the Foreign Office of Pakistan to actively highlight these injustices at the international level and to launch a sustained diplomatic campaign to expose the situation in Kashmir. He emphasized the need to organize press conferences and send delegations comprising family members of victims to present the human cost of the conflict before the world.
Referring to a recent tragic incident, he mentioned Raja Liaquat, who passed away in Srinagar while his entire family resides in Azad Kashmir. Despite routes being available, his family members were not allowed to attend his funeral. He termed this as the height of oppression, adding that family members were seen mourning helplessly across the Line of Control, described as a “bloody divide” , which he strongly condemned.
Also present on the occasion were Former Director Genral Kashmir Committee Naseem Khalid, Sanaullah Dar, Mohiuddin Dar, Sheikh Abdul Majid, and Sheikh Abdul Mateen, Engr Hammad Mir, Abraheem Altaf Bhat.
The participants offered prayers for the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the grieving family, while also calling for an end to the suffering of divided Kashmiri families.
