ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has underscored the significance of Pakistan’s rich Sufi heritage in fostering tolerance, dialogue, and social harmony, stating that the teachings of Sufi saints continue to provide valuable guidance in addressing modern-day challenges such as polarization and intolerance.
Speaking at the inauguration of the art exhibition “Sufism & Culture” by artists Roomi and Aiman at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad, Gilani praised the organizers and artists for showcasing a theme deeply rooted in Pakistan’s spiritual and cultural traditions.
The Chairman Senate noted that Pakistan possesses one of the most vibrant Sufi traditions in the Muslim world, which has profoundly influenced the country’s poetry, music, architecture, languages, and folklore. He said the enduring message of Sufism promotes respect, compassion, and peaceful coexistence—values that are increasingly essential in today’s world.
Gilani remarked that the teachings of Sufi saints remind humanity that respect is stronger than hatred, dialogue is more enduring than confrontation, and coexistence is more rewarding than exclusion. He emphasized that these timeless principles can help build peaceful, inclusive, and resilient societies.
Commending the artistic contributions of Roomi and Aiman, he said their work demonstrates how Pakistan’s cultural heritage continues to inspire contemporary artistic expression while connecting younger generations with enduring spiritual values.
The Chairman Senate also appreciated PNCA and all those involved in organizing the exhibition, which drew artists, cultural figures, diplomats, art enthusiasts, and distinguished guests from various sectors of society.
