Houthis Threaten Further Attacks on Saudi Airports and Oil Facilities

RIYADH-UNS— Yemen’s Houthi movement has threatened to continue attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities in the coming days, claiming responsibility for a military operation targeting Aramco facilities in Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport and an Aramco refinery in Riyadh.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group said the operation was carried out in response to Saudi airstrikes targeting Sana’a and other parts of Yemen. It claimed to have used ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), asserting that the weapons had struck their intended targets. The claims could not be independently verified.

The Houthis said they would continue operations against what they described as Saudi Arabia’s strategic interior, and warned shipping companies, civilians and personnel working at the targeted airports and facilities to evacuate and keep away from the sites.

Meanwhile, the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced that its air defences had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh. Coalition spokesperson Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki said the missile was intercepted before reaching its intended target.

Saudi Civil Defence had earlier announced on Wednesday that the threat to Riyadh and Al-Kharj Governorate had passed following an alert issued through the Kingdom’s national emergency early-warning system.

The coalition also reported the interception and destruction of a cruise missile over Al-Kharj, amid escalating hostilities and growing concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia’s critical infrastructure.

The latest developments underscore the widening threat to Saudi Arabia’s aviation and energy infrastructure as the confrontation between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis intensifies.
