Govt, Opposition remain divided over meeting with Imran Khan and possible delay of Long March

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Tehreek Tahafuz Aain Pakistan agree that only PTI founder Imran Khan can decide whether to withdraw the call for the long march. However, differences between government and opposition remain over whether the march should be postponed for a few days.

According to sources, Mahmood Khan Achakzai believes the long march should not proceed without a meeting with Imran Khan. The government, meanwhile, maintains that arrangements can be made for such a meeting if the march is postponed for a few days.

Some PTI leaders believe the party could allow time for negotiations if the government provides a written assurance within the next 72 hours that a meeting with Imran Khan will be arranged. They say the opportunity to resume meetings with Imran Khan should not be missed.

Sources said supporters of the proposal argue that if Imran Khan instructs the party during the meeting to continue the long march, party workers could intensify the protest with greater strength and determination.

However, political leaders have presented different arguments over postponing the march, and a final decision is expected after consultations.

All eyes are now on the outcome of the ongoing talks between the government and the opposition and the decision that will be announced regarding the long march.
