Opposition leader Achakzai leaves for Quetta amid dispute over long march

ISLAMABAD -UNS : Opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has left for Quetta after conveying a clear message to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership that the planned long march should not be postponed without a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan.

Before his departure, Achakzai reiterated that any decision regarding the postponement of the long march should be taken only after meeting Imran Khan.

Achakzai also suggested that, in his absence, CM KPK ,Sohail Afridi should meet Imran Khan and discuss the situation with him and Long March decision.

The development comes as differences remain within the opposition over whether the long march should be temporarily postponed to facilitate a meeting with Imran Khan.

The government has reportedly proposed postponing the march for a few days as a way to create an opportunity for the meeting, while Achakzai and some opposition leaders maintain that the march should not be delayed without first obtaining Imran Khan’s direction.

Further consultations among opposition leaders are expected as they work to reach a decision on the future course of action.
