WASHINGTON- UNS:The US State Department has introducesd new travel restrictions for its personnel in Saudi Arabia, requiring prior authorisation for both official and personal travel to the cities of Taif and Yanbu.
In an update issued by the Bureau of Consular Affairs, the department said the measures were prompted by ongoing developments and security concerns in the region.
Routine and emergency consular services remain available to US citizens in Saudi Arabia, with Americans advised to contact the nearest US embassy or consulate when assistance is required.
The State Department has also urged US citizens in the Kingdom to exercise a high degree of caution and remain vigilant, while following recommended security measures and preparing for potential emergencies.
The restrictions follow a recent security alert concerning hostilities involving the Houthis. US authorities warned of the possibility of an unexpected escalation in the Middle East, including potential flight cancellations and airspace closures.
The developments come amid heightened regional tensions and previous Houthi claims of missile and drone attacks targeting the Saudi capital.
