ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General (retd) Nauman Mahmood has been appointed as the first Secretary General of the alliance established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, the Foreign Office said.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson, Mahmood will head the alliance’s General Secretariat, which is being established in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Foreign Office said the General Secretariat will serve as the alliance’s central administrative body and will be headed by the Secretary General.
Mahmood’s appointment marks the establishment of the alliance’s senior administrative leadership. In his new role, he will oversee the functioning of the General Secretariat and support the implementation of the institutional arrangements outlined under the agreement.
The development comes after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye recently signed the Makkah Defence Agreement, establishing a framework for defence cooperation among the three countries.
As the alliance’s inaugural Secretary General, Mahmood will lead the secretariat from Riyadh and coordinate efforts aimed at putting the agreement’s institutional framework into operation.
