RAWALPINDI :The government early Friday sent former prime minister Imran Khan back to Adiala Jail from Shifa Hospital, where he was brought for a medical checkup late Thursday night.
According to jail sources, Khan was taken back to his cell by the police under tight security. Earlier, Khan was shifted to Shifa Hospital in Islamabad from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.According to jail officials, Khan was shifted to the hospital under tight security.
Also, large contingents of police were deployed outside the hospital for security. Sources said that arrangements had been finalised for the PTI founder’s treatment at the hospital and a team of doctors had been formed for his medical examination.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed the government to move Khan to hospital from jail.
A three-judge bench ordered that Khan be taken to Shifa Hospital in the federal capital within the next 48 hours. The government filed a review petition but the the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office raised objections to the review petition and returned it.
The Registrar’s Office said the petition was submitted without complete record. The petition was filed by the Islamabad chief commissioner through the Islamabad advocate general, seeking a review of the Supreme Court’s August 18 interim order.
The government argued that the order directing Imran Khan’s transfer to the hospital went beyond the court’s jurisdiction and therefore required reconsideration.
Responding to the development, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan said the relief given to the PTI founding chairman was not according to the law.Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, another lawmaker from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said that Imran Khan could be sent abroad.
