Iranian official reveals key details of draft Interim agreement with US

TEHRAN -UNS: A senior Iranian official has disclosed major provisions of a draft memorandum of understanding currently being discussed between Tehran and Washington, outlining political, economic, and nuclear commitments aimed at easing tensions and advancing negotiations toward a broader agreement.

According to the official, the proposed draft includes a temporary easing of U.S. sanctions on Iran’s oil sector, allowing Tehran to increase oil exports and regain access to part of its revenues during the negotiation period.

In exchange, Iran would commit not to produce or acquire nuclear weapons while maintaining its current nuclear activities without expansion.

The draft reportedly requires Tehran to halt further uranium enrichment beyond existing levels and refrain from developing new nuclear facilities until a comprehensive agreement is reached.

A key provision of the proposal establishes a 60-day framework for resolving concerns surrounding Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium through continued negotiations and monitoring mechanisms.

On the economic front, reports indicate that Washington may approve the release of approximately $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets, including financial transfers and credit facilities, to support Iran’s economy during the transitional phase.

The draft also reportedly contains a U.S. commitment to refrain from imposing new sanctions on Iran while the interim agreement remains in effect and negotiations continue.

Despite the reported progress, Iranian authorities stressed that the memorandum remains under review and has not been finalized. The Iranian Foreign Ministry urged caution regarding media reports and speculation about a signing date or the completion of the agreement.

The developments follow remarks by Donald Trump suggesting that a preliminary agreement could be signed within days.

Iranian officials responded cautiously, emphasizing that diplomatic consultations are still ongoing.

According to Mehdi Mohammadi, strategic adviser to the head of Iran’s negotiating team, the draft memorandum is built around five main pillars:

Limiting nuclear enrichment activities to current levels without expansion.
Temporary easing or suspension of oil-related sanctions.

Release of frozen Iranian assets and activation of designated financial channels.
A freeze on new sanctions during the agreement period.

A 60-day process to address the issue of highly enriched uranium.

Officials describe the proposed framework as an interim understanding designed to reduce tensions and create conditions for broader negotiations on a final agreement between Iran and the United States.
