ISLAMABAD -UNS : Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and security cooperation to counter terrorism, drug trafficking, human smuggling, illegal immigration and cybercrime.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail in Islamabad. The meeting was followed by delegation-level talks involving senior officials from both countries.
The two sides agreed that stronger intelligence coordination would help disrupt terrorist, narcotics and human-smuggling networks. They also decided to establish a joint working group and expand cooperation in coast guard operations and other security-related fields.
Pakistan and Malaysia further agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and the Royal Malaysian Police College through training programmes and exchanges of law-enforcement expertise.
Tourism, visa facilitation and employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Malaysia were also discussed. Naqvi expressed hope that Malaysia would increase work quotas for Pakistani nationals, enabling more workers to seek employment through legal channels.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening Pakistan-Malaysia relations and expanding cooperation across security, law enforcement and other areas of mutual interest.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the federal interior secretary, DG FIA, National Coordinator NACTA, DG Passports and other senior officials attended the talks.
