UNS:Israel expanded its military strikes on Iran overnight, targeting fuel depots near Tehran as the conflict entered its ninth day, raising fears of further escalation across the Middle East.
According to reports from Dubai and Jerusalem, Israeli forces carried out air strikes on oil storage facilities in the Iranian capital, sending thick black smoke over parts of Tehran. Residents reported that the attacks lit up the night sky with large flames and explosions.
The Israeli military said the targeted depots were being used to support Iran’s military operations, including the production and storage of propellants for ballistic missiles. Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said the sites were considered legitimate military targets.
Iran strongly condemned the strikes, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei describing the attack as a “dangerous new phase” of the conflict and accusing Israel of committing a war crime.
Meanwhile, regional tensions intensified after Bahrain reported that an Iranian attack had damaged one of its desalination plants, highlighting the growing risk of the conflict spreading to critical infrastructure across the Gulf.
The fighting has escalated following a joint campaign by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets. In a separate development, Iran has reportedly begun preparations to appoint a new supreme leader following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Reports suggest that Mojtaba Khamenei, the late leader’s influential son, is among the leading candidates to assume the powerful position.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would continue its offensive against Iran’s leadership. In a video statement, he said the government had an “organised plan with many surprises” aimed at destabilising Iran’s ruling system.
The United States has also taken a hard line on the conflict. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump said he was not interested in negotiations to end the war, adding that the conflict could continue until Iran’s military leadership and governing structure were eliminated.
The escalating confrontation has already caused turbulence in global energy markets
