TEHRAN -UNS: Iran has announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels following the ceasefire in Lebanon, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Araghchi said the strategic waterway has been restored for all commercial shipping and will remain fully operational throughout the ceasefire period.
He added that maritime traffic will continue under coordinated routes designated by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, aimed at ensuring safe and regulated passage through the narrow and highly sensitive shipping corridor.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, the decision is intended to ease regional tensions and support the recovery of global trade flows.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, and any disruption or reopening of the route has significant implications for international energy markets.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his official visit to Tehran.
During the meeting, President Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s role in promoting peace efforts and acknowledged its contribution to facilitating ceasefire-related negotiations.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi were also present.
Both sides discussed the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, the progress of peace arrangements, and the next phase of Islamabad-hosted talks.
Pezeshkian also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and hospitality during the negotiations.
