Rawalpindi: Amid heightened security measures in Rawalpindi due to perceived threats and the arrival of a foreign delegation, the district administration deployed a heavy police presence across major roads and commercial areas late last night. Markets, hotels, and several business centers were temporarily shut down as part of precautionary arrangements.
While the visible security response appeared robust, reports from the field highlighted a different reality for the personnel assigned to duty. According to sources, police officers were required to remain on duty for up to 12 consecutive hours without adequate provision of food, drinking water, or access to basic facilities such as restrooms.
The prolonged duty hours, combined with intense heat, reportedly led to physical exhaustion and mental strain among several officers. Speaking on condition of anonymity, one officer remarked, “We are standing here to ensure public safety, but there is no one to look after our own basic needs.”
Members of the public have also expressed concern over the situation, emphasizing that while security remains a priority, neglecting the welfare of frontline personnel is both unfair and counterproductive.
