Peshawar-UNS: A prominent urologist, Dr Asif Malik, was critically injured after unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Peshawar, police officials said on Tuesday.
According to initial reports, the attack occurred in the upscale locality of University Town, where gunmen targeted the doctor and fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Dr Malik sustained multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Hospital sources confirmed that the injured doctor was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where his condition was later described as stable. Dr Malik is widely known for his contributions to kidney treatment and transplant procedures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Forensic teams collected evidence from the site, while CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined to identify the attackers.
Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the attack; however, officials suspect it may be a case of targeted violence. The incident has raised concerns regarding the safety of medical professionals in the provincial capital.
