KARACHI (UNS) : The Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government has come under renewed criticism over the size of its administrative team amid persistent concerns about governance, corruption, bad Governanance, law and order situations, public services and development across the province.
According to available figures, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah’s government includes 19 ministers, five advisers, 24 special assistants and 14 spokespersons. This is biggest cabinet in the history.
Critics argue that this political structure is significantly larger than those of Punjab and the federal government, despite Punjab having more than twice Sindh’s population.
The PPP has governed Sindh continuously for approximately 18 years.
During this period, the province reportedly received around Rs32 trillion from the federal government under various financial arrangements.
Opposition parties and government critics have demanded a transparent, independently audited account of how these funds were allocated and spent.
Serious allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement have also been raised. However, such claims require investigation and supporting evidence from competent accountability and audit institutions.
Although the 18th Constitutional Amendment transferred substantial authority and resources from the federation to the provinces, critics question why these powers have not been effectively devolved to Sindh’s cities, districts and local governments.
They say that while political appointments have continued to increase, residents still face major problems involving clean water, public transport, education, healthcare, municipal services, infrastructure and law and order.
The provincial government has been urged to reduce unnecessary political appointments, strengthen local governments, disclose detailed expenditure records and prioritise measurable improvements in public services.
