Mumbai -UNS: Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has reportedly drawn attention after expressing his appreciation for Islamic traditions, particularly the call to prayer, or Azan.
According to reports circulating in Indian media, Patekar invited a teacher from a madrasa in Maharashtra to recite the Azan into his grandson’s ear following the child’s birth, instead of following the family’s customary Hindu naming rituals.
Reports further claim that Patekar arranged new clothes and a meal for more than 120 children studying at the madrasa. He is also said to have personally joined the children for the meal.
Patekar reportedly explained that after learning the meaning of the Azan, he experienced a deep sense of peace and therefore wanted his grandson to begin life by hearing its words.
The reported gesture also attracted criticism from some Hindu hardline circles. In response, Patekar was quoted as saying, “I earn and live on my own terms, and I do not care about what others think.”
The episode has since sparked discussion on social media, with many people viewing the reported gesture as an example of religious respect and harmony.
