ISLAMABAD-UND: Pakistan is steadily entering the electric mobility era as electric vehicles (EVs) gain visibility across the country’s transport sector, driving demand for reliable and intelligent charging infrastructure.
Under the National Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP), Pakistan aims for EVs to account for 30 per cent of new vehicle sales by 2030, translating into an estimated 2.21 million vehicles, with a long-term target of achieving a fully zero-emission vehicle fleet by 2060. Officials say the success of this transition will depend not only on vehicle adoption but also on the rapid rollout of scalable and investment-ready charging networks.
To support this shift, the government has mandated the installation of 3,000 EV charging stations by 2030 under a phased roadmap. The first phase includes 240 stations, with Islamabad planned as a model EV city. Level-3 fast chargers are to be deployed every 15 to 30 kilometres along major motorways, including M1 to M5, M9 and N5, while urban centres will be equipped with DC fast chargers at three-kilometre intervals to ensure accessibility.
Despite challenges such as infrastructure gaps, grid connectivity delays and high import costs, recent regulatory measures have improved the investment climate. These include a reduced customs duty of one per cent on EV charging equipment and the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority’s (NEECA) approval of internationally compliant brands.
Livoltek, a global energy technology company, has introduced a range of smart EV chargers designed to meet Pakistan’s growing needs. Its product line includes 7.3kW AC chargers for residential use and high-power DC fast chargers of up to 240kW for commercial and public infrastructure.
For homes and small businesses, the company offers single-phase chargers with IP65 protection and RFID and mobile-app access. For commercial buildings and workplaces, three-phase chargers of 11kW and 22kW support photovoltaic integration and dynamic load management, enabling more efficient energy use and future grid compatibility.
Experts say the expansion of smart charging solutions will play a key role in supporting Pakistan’s transition toward sustainable transport and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
