Islamabad -UNS : Minister of State for Culture and National Heritage, Huzefa Rehman, has announced comprehensive support measures for journalists, including health insurance, infrastructure development, and cultural initiatives, during his visit to the National Press Club (NPC) to congratulate its newly elected leadership.
He stated that the government would collaborate with journalists to develop a structured mechanism for organizing cultural events, which could be held at venues such as the Press Club, Lok Virsa, or PNCA, based on journalists’ preferences.
He emphasized that providing health insurance, grants, and the construction of the Press Club building are the rightful entitlements of journalists, assuring full government cooperation in these areas.
Upon his arrival, NPC President Abdul Razzaq Sial, Secretary Dr. Furqan Rao, and senior journalists warmly welcomed the minister. President Sial highlighted Rehman’s longstanding association with journalism and the Press Club, describing it as his “second home,” and expressed hope for his continued success in politics.
He also requested special support for the construction of the Press Club building, health insurance for members, and biometric verification to uphold the institution’s prestige.
Secretary Dr. Furqan Rao noted that the NPC represents journalists from across Pakistan, including all four provinces, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
He stressed the importance of promoting regional culture through dedicated events and sought the ministry’s cooperation in this regard.
In response, Rehman reaffirmed his commitment to serving the entire journalist community without bias.
He said the government would prepare a feasibility report in coordination with the Planning Ministry and seek approval from the Prime Minister to address the journalists’ demands.
Regarding biometric verification, he said arrangements would be made through NADRA with advanced security features to ensure transparency and credibility.
He also praised the Pakistani media for demonstrating responsibility and professionalism during recent tensions with India.
