HODEIDAH/TAIZ, Yemen -UNS: Government forces have withdrawn from several positions south of Hodeidah and repositioned toward Al-Mukha and Dhubab in southwestern Taiz Governorate, according to Yemeni military sources, in a significant shift along Yemen’s western coastal front.
The sources said the withdrawal began at dawn on Thursday from positions in Hays District and parts of Al-Khokha District, amid an advance by Houthi forces in the area. The two districts form part of the southern coastal approaches to Hodeidah on the Red Sea.
According to the sources, the redeployment followed the reported capture of the Khalid bin Al-Walid Camp, described by the sources as one of Yemen’s largest military bases. They said intensified fighting and Houthi mobilization around the western fronts of Maqbanah raised concerns that the route linking southern Hodeidah with Al-Mukha could be disrupted.
