CM Afridi announces first phase of long march from Lakki Marwat

PESHAWAR ,-UNS : Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced that the first phase of the opposition’s long march will begin today (Sunday) from Gundi Chowk in Lakki Marwat.

Afridi said people from Tank and Dera Ismail Khan would join the march at 1pm from Gundi Chowk, while participants from South and North Waziristan, Bannu and Lakki Marwat would also take part.

According to the chief minister, the convoy is expected to reach Karak by nightfall, where participants will set up camp. He added that residents of Karak would join the march at noon on October 5.

The announcement comes as the federal government and the opposition continue negotiations aimed at reducing political tensions. A joint declaration was reportedly prepared following the second round of talks held in Islamabad on Saturday.

The meeting, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, was attended by representatives of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the opposition alliance.

The talks are taking place amid growing pressure to resolve differences over the opposition’s planned march towards the federal capital.
