MUZAFFARABAD -UNS: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of benefiting from alleged electoral manipulation in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, calling for a judicial inquiry into reported polling-day irregularities.
Addressing a PPP workers’ convention in Muzaffarabad, Bilawal thanked party supporters, particularly in Mirpur, for their participation in the electoral process. He claimed the PPP had received a strong public mandate in several constituencies and vowed that the party would protect every vote cast in its favour.
The PPP chairman alleged that irregularities had affected the election outcome and urged authorities to conduct an independent judicial investigation into incidents reported during polling. He said a transparent inquiry was necessary to uphold public confidence in the democratic process.
According to unofficial and provisional election results from the first phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly polls, the PML-N secured nine of the 13 constituencies in the Mirpur division, while the PPP won four seats.
The PML-N has not officially responded to Bilawal’s allegations. Election authorities have also not announced any formal investigation into the claims.
The AJK elections are being closely watched as an important indicator of political support ahead of future electoral contests, with the results expected to shape the region’s political landscape in the coming years.
