Islamabad-UNS: Aleem Dar has resigned from Pakistan’s national selection committee following the team’s disappointing performance in the Super Four stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and its subsequent exit from the tournament.
According to reliable sources, the former ICC Elite Panel umpire stepped down in protest against what he described as undue interference in selection matters by head coach Mike Hesson and the inaction of senior selector Aaqib Javed.
Sources said Aleem Dar was of the view that the selectors had finalised a pool of 20 players, but the captain and head coach selected an unsuitable final 15 and later made questionable choices in the playing XI. As a result, selectors were left to bear the brunt of public criticism.
During the tournament, Aleem Dar reportedly raised objections to the inclusion of former captain Babar Azam and all-rounder Shadab Khan, citing their poor form. However, captain Salman Ali Agha and Aaqib Javed did not oppose the decision, while coach Mike Hesson exercised decisive authority over selections.
Aleem Dar had also recommended that experienced wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan be played at number six instead of Usman Khan. He maintained that if Babar Azam and Shadab Khan could be retained despite underperforming, Mohammad Rizwan also deserved another opportunity in the squad.
