Federal Minister Mufti Abdul Shakoor loses life in road accident

ISLAMABAD -UNS: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor died in a road accident on Saturday, the Islamabad police confirmed. The funeral prayer of Mufti was conducted late in the night, led by his party leader Maulana Fazalur Rehman.

Capital police said that the JUI-F MNA Shakoor’s car was hit by a Hilux Revo, carrying five passengers, when he was on his way to the Secretariat chowk from Marriott hotel. “He was shifted to Polyclinic hospital but he could not be resuscitated to life,” the police added.

Upon reports, rescue teams and the police reached the spot. The rescue teams provided first aid to the injured and the police launched an investigation into the incident. The police reported that the car and passengers were taken into custody.

Maulana Fazalur Rehman while leading the funeral prayers said the loss of Mufti Abdul Shakoor is an enormous one for his party and himself as well. The funeral was attended by Yousaf Raza Gillani, Tariq Fazal Chaudhary and other eminent leaders.

Condolences:President Dr Arif Alvi took to Twitter to share his sorrow on his death. He also praised his efforts for interfaith harmony.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences on the sad demise saying “he was saddened to hear about the sudden death of a member of his cabinet”.

PTI senior vice president Fawad Chaudhry prayed for the departed soul.

Minister for external affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari expressed their sad thoughts on his demise.
