BEIJING – UNS- : Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Dr. Syed Ali Asad Gillani, has underscored the pivotal role of Xinhua News Agency in strengthening Pakistan-China relations and promoting mutual understanding, while advocating responsible use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in journalism.
Addressing the 7th World Media Summit at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday, Ambassador Gillani conveyed a special message from the President of Pakistan and congratulated Xinhua News Agency on completing 95 years of service on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.
The summit, organised under the theme “Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action,” brought together media leaders, policymakers and professionals to discuss the evolving role of journalism and the impact of technological advancements on the global media landscape.
The Pakistani envoy acknowledged Xinhua’s longstanding contribution to international journalism, particularly its efforts to connect China with the international community and promote greater understanding among nations.
He noted that during the 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, Xinhua had made significant contributions to strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
Highlighting institutional cooperation between the two sides, Gillani referred to Xinhua’s partnerships with the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC).
Describing Pakistan-China relations as a partnership founded on mutual trust, goodwill and cooperation.
The ambassador emphasised the need to preserve this historic relationship for future generations and communicate its significance to the wider international community.
Commenting on the summit’s central theme, Gillani observed that artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies were rapidly transforming the way information was produced, distributed and consumed. While these developments offered considerable opportunities to make media services more accessible and efficient, he cautioned that their misuse could undermine public confidence and the credibility of journalism.
He stressed that technological progress must not overshadow the fundamental principles of journalism, including accuracy, responsibility, truth and public service. The primary responsibility of the media, he maintained, remained informing the public, promoting understanding and contributing to international peace and cooperation.
