US Seeks China’s Help to End Iran War

WASHINGTON (UNS) : The United States has reportedly approached China, seeking its assistance in bringing an end to the ongoing conflict with Iran, as diplomatic efforts continue amid claims of progress in negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

According to a report published by The Washington Post, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent contacted Beijing on the instructions of President Donald Trump, requesting China’s support in efforts to resolve the conflict. China has reportedly conveyed Washington’s message to Tehran, raising hopes for a possible diplomatic breakthrough.

The report stated that US Vice President JD Vance is leading diplomatic engagement with Iran. As part of the outreach, Vance reportedly sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei last month, seeking to advance discussions.

Iranian leaders are also assessing whether Washington’s approach towards Tehran could undergo a significant shift following the US midterm elections, the newspaper reported.

Trump had previously sought Chinese President Xi Jinping’s assistance in addressing the Iran issue during their meeting in September, highlighting Beijing’s potential role in facilitating diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, Trump said the United States was holding discussions with Iran and described the negotiations as progressing positively.
“We are talking to Iran, and we are doing very well,” Trump said, expressing confidence in the outcome of the ongoing engagement.

He also claimed that Washington had achieved encouraging results in its dealings with Tehran.
The US president further asserted that Iran had suffered a severe military defeat and described the Strait of Hormuz as fully open. He also claimed that the United States had not lost any military personnel over the past six to seven months.

In a separate post on his Truth Social platform, Trump reiterated his firm stance on Iran’s nuclear programme, arguing that preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons had safeguarded Israel and the broader Middle East.
He claimed that without these efforts, Israel and the entire Middle East might no longer exist. Trump added that although some people were unwilling to acknowledge the significance of his position, he believed his assessment was accurate.

The reported diplomatic outreach to China comes as Washington seeks to secure an end to the conflict, with Beijing potentially playing a key role in communicating with Tehran and supporting efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
