RIYADH – UBS: Several energy-sector facilities in Saudi Arabia’s southern region were targeted on Tuesday morning, causing fires at some locations, temporary disruptions to certain operations and injuries to a number of citizens and residents, the Saudi Ministry of Energy said.
An official source at the ministry said the relevant authorities had immediately begun responding to the attacks and implementing necessary measures. Specialized field teams were deployed to contain the fires, secure the affected sites and assess the damage.
The ministry said the injured were receiving medical treatment and that assessment and follow-up operations remained underway.
Authorities were also taking measures to safeguard energy facilities and personnel and to ensure the continuity of operations in accordance with approved contingency and operational plans, the source said.
Coalition Says Houthi Attacks Targeted Civilian and Economic Sites
Major General Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, said the latest attacks by the Houthi militia represented a dangerous escalation and constituted a threat to Saudi Arabia’s national assets and the safety of its citizens and residents.
Al-Maliki said the attacks targeted civilian and economic sites in the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, causing injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children.
He described the attacks as a violation of Saudi sovereignty and said the deliberate targeting of national assets, facilities and civilian infrastructure demonstrated the militia’s continued hostile approach.
Al-Maliki said the Coalition’s Joint Forces Command would take the necessary operational measures to deter further attacks, confront the threat and protect Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, national assets and population.
He added that the Coalition would take measures to respond to the sources of the threat and neutralize the danger posed by the attacks.
Saudi Arabia Condemns Attacks
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned what it described as Houthi attacks against civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, saying the attacks resulted in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children.
The ministry also condemned the continued targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and what it described as threats to freedom of international maritime navigation.
Saudi authorities said the situation remained under assessment as emergency and security teams continued to respond to the attacks and their consequences.
