ISLAMABAD -UNS : Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail early Friday after undergoing a detailed medical examination at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Khan was taken to the hospital during the night of August 20-21 in compliance with a Supreme Court order and under strict security arrangements.
According to Tarar, a team of specialist doctors, including experts in ophthalmology, cardiology and general medicine, conducted a comprehensive examination and declared the former prime minister medically fit. He said Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, remained present during the medical examination and treatment process.
Following completion of the medical procedures, Khan was taken back to Adiala Jail at around 5:00am on August 21 under tight police security.
Earlier this week, a three-member Supreme Court bench had ordered the government to shift Khan from jail to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours for medical examination and treatment.
The government subsequently filed a review petition against the interim order. However, the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office returned the petition after raising objections, including that it had been submitted without a complete record.
The government had argued in its petition that the direction to transfer Khan to hospital went beyond the court’s jurisdiction and should be reconsidered.
