ISLAMABAD – UNS : Serious concerns have been raised over the performance of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), with citizens alleging excessive billing, poor service delivery, and a lack of adequate safety measures across Islamabad and surrounding areas.
Residents claim that exposed electricity wires, open distribution boxes and other unsafe electrical installations are posing a serious threat to public safety. They argue that such hazardous infrastructure is effectively inviting fatal accidents, particularly in densely populated areas.
Citizens have also expressed concern over reports of deaths and injuries allegedly caused by electric shocks, questioning why dangerous installations have not been properly secured despite repeated complaints.
The public is demanding greater transparency and accountability from IESCO management, including an independent investigation into allegations of overbilling, corruption and negligence. They believe that where negligence is established, the responsible officials should face legal action in accordance with the law.
Citizens have further called for an immediate inspection of dangerous electrical infrastructure throughout Islamabad and adjoining areas, with damaged or exposed equipment repaired without delay.
There are also growing calls for a broader review of IESCO’s institutional performance and whether an alternative model of electricity distribution could provide better service, transparency and public safety.
However, legal experts and citizens stress that responsibility for any future accident should be determined through a proper investigation based on evidence. If criminal negligence is established, action should be taken against the individuals legally responsible, regardless of their position.
Citizens are now urging authorities to take a firm stand on public safety, ensure accountability and prevent further loss of life or property caused by unsafe electricity infrastructure.
