ADEN, Yemen : Fourteen Pakistani crew members aboard the oil tanker MT DORIN have appealed to the Government of Pakistan for urgent diplomatic intervention and assistance in securing their repatriation from Yemen, following the vessel’s detention at Aden’s outer anchorage.
The tanker arrived at the outer anchorage of the Port of Aden on 30 July 2026, reportedly to take on approximately 150 tonnes of fuel. According to the Yemeni Ministry of Transport, authorities subsequently identified a number of compliance and maritime-risk indicators concerning the vessel.
A specialist Port State Control (PSC) team inspected the vessel on 6 August, reviewing its statutory and technical certificates, crew competency documents, official ship records, oil record book and waste-delivery receipts. Inspectors also examined the engine room and bridge, as well as navigation and communications equipment, lifesaving appliances and firefighting systems.
The Yemeni Ministry of Transport said the information available to the authorities included the vessel’s appearance on a US Treasury sanctions-related list. It also said the tanker was operating under the Guyana flag, but that the relevant Guyanese authorities had confirmed that the vessel was not registered under their flag.
Yemeni authorities further cited repeated changes in ownership and management, as well as a lack of clarity surrounding certain classification, protection and insurance information. Following the inspection, officials recorded deficiencies and observations relating to international maritime conventions, safety requirements and operational standards.
Importantly, the Yemeni Ministry of Transport stressed that the measures against DORIN should not in themselves be interpreted as a finding of guilt against the vessel or its operators.
According to the ministry, the action forms part of regulatory, verification and risk-management procedures intended to ensure compliance with international maritime standards, protect navigation and safeguard Yemen’s territorial waters and marine environment.
