WASHINGTON -UNS: The United States has announced a new round of targeted Iran-related sanctions as Washington intensifies economic pressure on Tehran six months into the ongoing conflict.
The latest measures follow warnings from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that the Trump administration would take further action against entities maintaining financial and commercial links with Iran.
According to a US official, the administration is preparing restrictions targeting Banque Misr, an Egyptian state-owned bank, over transactions involving Tehran. The proposed measures would affect the bank’s operations in the United Arab Emirates.
If finalized, the action would revoke the UAE branches of Banque Misr’s correspondent banking access to US financial institutions, effectively restricting their ability to conduct transactions through the American financial system.
The move represents another step in Washington’s broader effort to increase financial pressure on Iran and restrict Tehran’s access to international banking channels.
The latest sanctions come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran over the conflict and the unresolved nuclear dispute, with the Trump administration signaling that economic pressure will remain a central part of its Iran policy.
Further measures could follow as US authorities continue scrutinizing financial institutions and other entities accused of facilitating transactions involving Iran.
