The meeting followed Prince Khalid’s talks with US Vice President JD Vance, during which the Saudi minister reportedly conveyed that Saudi Arabia supports de-escalation with Iran, despite the recent joint US-Saudi military strikes against Iranian-aligned militias in Iraq.
According to the sources, Prince Khalid’s visit carried a direct message from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman concerning the conflict with Iran and the rapidly evolving security situation across the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia Balancing Military Cooperation and Diplomacy
The discussions highlight Riyadh’s dual-track strategy: maintaining close military cooperation with Washington while simultaneously advocating diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader regional war.
Although Saudi Arabia participated alongside the United States in strikes targeting Iran-backed militias in Iraq earlier this week, Saudi officials reportedly stressed that these operations should not derail efforts to reduce tensions with Tehran.
